Music of Shakespeare at Pequot Library

Celebrate May Day and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" with this final concert of the 2-14=2015 season of Music at Pequot Library.

The Library brings the Music on the Hill Chamber Chorus to its beloved performance space for "Shakespeare at the Library," a concert featuring words of The Bard in a variety of musical interpretations.  Music on the Hill Artistic Director David H. Connell conducts the 16-voice ensemble, known for its impeccable performance.

The concert takes place on Friday, May 1, at 8:00 p.m. at the Pequot Library in Southport, 720 Pequot Avenue.  Tickets are $20 purchased through April 20 at www.musiconthehillCT.org; $30 at the door.

The concert features "Three Shakespeare Songs" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and "Songs and Sonnets of Shakespeare" by British jazz pianist George Shearing, as well as modern reinterpretations from such popular musicals as Bernstein's West Side Story and Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate.

This stylistically diverse program will be performed in the library's Tudor-style Concert Hall, esteemed for its fine acoustics.

"And what is so rare as a day in June?"  A May Day evening with music and Shakespeare!
