Westport and The New Yorker: A Conversation with Andrew Bentley, Eve Potts and Lee Lorenz

On Tuesday, October 6, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., to celebrate the new book The New Yorker in Westportand the Westport Historical Society’s encore exhibit, co-authors Andrew Bentley and Eve Potts will discuss our community’s unique history in the pages of the magazine with Lee Lorenz, who served as the art editor of The New Yorker from 1973 to 1993 and the its cartoon editor from 1993 to 1997. Lorenz is a prolific contributor to the magazine; he has done many covers and more than eighteen hundred cartoons.

About the book: This limited-edition hardcover coffee table book, features 50 full-sizeNew Yorker covers of Westport scenes. Each cover is accompanied by facts and stories from Westport’s history. Inspired by last summer’s Westport Historical Society exhibit “COVER STORY: The New Yorker in Westport,” the book highlights the visions of artists who lived and worked in Westport and includes some of Westport’s little-known history. Featured artists include Charles Addams, Perry Barlow, Whitney Darrow, Jr., Edna Eicke, Arthur Getz, Alice Harvey, Helen Hokinson, Albert Hubbell, David Preston, Garrett Price and Charles Saxon. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at the program.
