Tom Appleby to Open Y's Men Speaker Season

Cablevision of Connecticut's News Director Tom Appleby will open the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston’s 2016-17 year, speaking on September 8, 2016 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church at 245 Post Road East, Westport. Appleby will talk to the current state of local journalism, how technology is changing reporting and whether it has yielded a better informed public.

During the 32 years Appleby has been with News 12 Connecticut the network has won more than 800 major awards, including 46 Emmy Awards, 59 Regional and three National Edward R. Murrow awards, and 104 Associated Press Awards, including five Mark Twain awards for Station Excellence.

Appleby has earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English literature from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. from Dartmouth. Prior to entering broadcasting, he was a tenured lecturer at The City College of New York.

Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of retired and semi-retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service.
