Adams Academy Open House

In conjunction with the “Westport School Days 1703-Present” exhibit, Westport’s 1837 one-room school house, Adams Academy, 15 Morningside Drive North, will be open for visitors from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, May 20. Join Westport Historical Society to see an authentic school house and discover the unique way students learned in the 19th century.

Try your hand at cup-and-ball and other games from the period and view costumes students would have worn on their 2 mile walk to school. Practice your penmanship on slate boards and read from hornbooks, and if you’re brave, try on the infamous dunce cap.

The school house will be open free of charge for the afternoon, so join WHS in celebrating one of the treasures of our town and drop in for a visit.
