The Watermark to Host Presentation on Homeschooling in Connecticut

On Thursday, June 15, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host “Homeschooling My Three Children,” an informational presentation on homeschooling in Connecticut led by Watermark associate Jean Kresge. The event will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the continuing care retirement community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line. It is free of charge and open to the public.

Now the Human Resource Manager at The Watermark at 3030 Park, Kresge homeschooled her three children from kindergarten through high school between 1988 and 2008. As an uncommon educational alternative at the time, Kresge was required to work with her local public school and create a portfolio review of her curriculum. Kresge’s work would go on to become a benchmarking system for future homeschooling parents in their school system.

“Although homeschooling has become much more common, there are still challenges that every parent will face if they choose this option over public school,” said Kresge. “Homeschooled children need choices and a sense of community as they learn, and I hope to be able to shed some light on what goes into a successful home-based program.”

During the presentation, Kresge will be joined by colleagues who also homeschooled their children. The group will discuss the legalities of homeschooling, time management, college preparation, and their own personal stories.

This event is just one of the many classes, lectures and trips offered through The Watermark to keep its residents and the local community active and engaged.
