Still Creating after All These Years: Westporter Trace Burroughs is something of an artistic prodigy. He first picked up a paintbrush at age 10, encouraged by his father, professional illustrator Bernie Burroughs. By age 15, he had sold more than 300 of his original abstract expressionistic paintings. A few years later, he broke the Guinness World Record for marathon drum soloing, garnering national attention and a TV interview with David Frost.
Since that initial encounter with brush and canvas, Burroughs has never stepped off the creative path. While a student at Staples High School, he was the drummer with two popular Westport bands, The Rogues and Styx. His résumé is packed with stints as graphic artist, editorial art director, cartoonist, author, Nickelodeon voice-over performer, animator, screenwriter, and radio talk-show host.
Burroughs will share his personal story and artistic process at the Westport Historical Society on Thursday, Aug. 24 from noon to 1 pm.
Conversation with Artist Trace Burroughs will be held in the Mollie Donovan Gallery.
