Jim Clark Trio to perform at Silvermine Oct. 1

On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, the Jim Clark Trio will bring Jazz to Silvermine.  This special musical performance will benefit Art Partners, Silvermine’s Outreach Education Program, which brings curriculum-based, studio art programs to over 1,000 underserved students annually in Fairfield County.  The event will begin with a Gallery reception from 4-4:30pm followed by a 5-6pm performance in the Sara Victoria Hall Auditorium.

The Jim Clark Trio features Jim on tenor and soprano saxophones, Chris Coogan on piano, and John Mobilio on upright bass. In addition to Jazz favorites and American standards, they will play a few original compositions modeled in the style of the Great American Songbook. Known for their melodic, inventive, and energetic performances, Jim and his trio consistently delight their audiences.

Clark, who is also an award-winning composer, has just released his new CD, “Old as New—Songs from the Imaginary Great American Songbook,” which features original works. Clark’s performing and composing talents have been featured everywhere from intimate Jazz venues to Carnegie Hall. Silvermine will have CDs available at the concert.

“We’re delighted to be able to present an evening that features such accomplished and engaging musicians to help us observe the 25th Anniversary year of Art Partners,” said Sophia Gevas, Outreach Education Director at Silvermine. “Experts agree that using a variety of educational approaches increases the likelihood of successfully communicating with students, particularly those for whom English is a second language. Art is a vehicle that transcends language and is effective at reaching and engaging students and enhancing their communication skills. Support of this program will help us continue to provide these exciting and educational opportunities for grade school, middle school, and high school students in Norwalk and Stamford.”

Art Partners provides professional Teaching Artists to design and execute compelling arts classes that incorporate subjects such as history, science, or language arts, for underserved students. The distinctiveness of Art Partners centers on the quality of the Teaching Artists and their close collaboration with classroom teachers and program directors to augment student academic achievement.

Tickets for the performance are $50 per person, and can be purchased online at http://www.silvermineart.org/events/performances.php  or by calling the Silvermine Arts Center office (203) 966-9700 ext. 2.
