Whiffenpoofs in Westport---What's Next?

The Whiffenpoofs, Yale's storied a capella singing group, will bring their light-hearted joy in song to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston's April 24 meeting at the Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plain Road. Coffee and donuts start at 9:45 AM; the Whiffenpoofs begin harmonizing at 10:30 AM.

As a Yale alum myself, I can tell you that nothing quite compares to the dulcet tones, wicked wit, and white gloves of the tuxedoed Whiffs when they take the stage. These young men have the finest voices at Yale, and their performance is captivating. So come boola boola with the best!

In 1909, five of the Yale Glee Club's best singers convened at Mory's Temple Bar, bartended by music aficionado Louis Linder, and established a tradition of weekly gatherings at the bar filled with light-hearted song and camaraderie and concluded with their famous Whiffenpoof Song. The group quickly became one of Yale's most celebrated traditions. Members have included Cole Porter, Prescott Bush, and Charles Rivkin, recent U.S. Ambassador to France and Monaco. They now travel and perform extensively during the school year and take a world tour during the summer.

The Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of semi-retired and retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service. Those interested in attending the Whiffenpoofs' performance and learning more about the Y's Men should contact Larry Hirsch at lhirsch1990@gmail.com or 203-226-1845.
