Legendary Mario's Place Restaurant to offer Brunch for First Time in it's 48 Year History

Westport favorite Mario's Place will start serving an 'Italian Brunch' featuring "Bottomless" Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's every Sunday for $19.95.

For generations, Mario's Place restaurant in Westport, has been a destination for lunch and dinner . A new generation of customers will now be frequenting the same restaurant their parents may have grown up going to. Mario's will now be serving a family friendly "Italian" brunch starting September 14th.

"I love brunch and I was having a problem finding a really great place to go, that was also family friendly. I realized I wasn't the only one", said owner Lori Kosut. "For years customers have asked us to serve brunch, or to cater their brunch, but it just wasn't something my father wanted to do."

Kosut, a lifelong Westport resident, has owned and operated Mario's Place since her father, Frank "Tiger" DeMace passed away in 2012. Mr. DeMace opened Mario's Place in 1967.

"I am very proud of what my father built. I am proud that three generations of my family work here. Mario's has always been a family restaurant - but as a mother, I can tell you, I don't want to be home making breakfast for my family on a Sunday. So that's one of the changes I am most excited about. I will be here for brunch just as often my customers."

In honor of her heritage, and Westport history, she decided to offer Italian specialties as part of the menu. "When my father grew up here, even when I did, most of the families in Saugatuck were Italian – and, after all, we are an Italian restaurant."

Highlighting the new menu are Italian 'French' Toast, Prosciutto di Parma Omelette's, Eggs Benedict, and Italian pastries. In a nod to their famous steaks, which Ms. Kosut points out are grass-fed beef from Creek Stone Farms in Colorado, they will also be offering Steak and Eggs - as well as many other traditional Brunch items. Coffee, and "Bottomless Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's are included in the price.

When Mrs. Kosut says family friendly, she's not just speaking about the welcoming atmosphere. "One of the many things we are known for, one that I am most proud of, is large portions at fair prices. My father always insisted on keeping Mario's affordable for families – that will not change. Sundays are a day for family – whether it be a family of friends, or a family with children."

Mario's Place is located at 36 Railroad Place, opposite the train station, in the Saugatuck district of Westport. For reservations, please call 203-226-0308.
