Winter Storm Updates

Westport is getting ready for the big storm.

Many events scheduled for today or tonight have been canceled or rescheduled.

All schools and the library will be closed on Tuesday, and the town's snow removal teams are ready to get to work.

Governor Malloy has banned travel on highways starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight, and NYC public transportation (subways, buses, MTA, and LIRR) are shutting down at 11:00 p.m.

CL&P sent the following email to customers to help them prepare for possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service, a significant winter storm is predicted to arrive in Connecticut on Monday, and is anticipated to continue through the day on Tuesday. CL&P is prepared to respond quickly, and we want to make sure you have the information you need to be prepared.

If you lose service, please call us at 800-286-2000, or report the outage on your mobile device or home computer via cl-p.com.  It's important that you report an outage even if you think your neighbors may have already reported it. The more information we have, the more thorough our assessment of damage will be, ensuring repairs are expedited.

Most important, please stay safe. If you see a downed power line, always assume it's live; do not go near it, and never drive over the line.

Please know that CL&P is ready for the storm and we are working around the clock for you and all of our customers.

Thank you.

Helpful Hints

  • Prepare a storm kit and keep it handy. Visit our website for a list of supplies.
  • If you use a generator, follow all safety precautions provided by the manufacturer.
  • If you use a cell phone, save your power or have a plan to be able to charge the phone.
  • Gather all necessary medications and make sure you have an adequate supply.
  • If you rely on oxygen please be sure you have an ample supply on hand.
  • If you, a friend or family member relies on electricity for life support devices, well water or refrigeration for medications, please make preparations now to switch to a backup source or move to an alternate location. It's also a good idea to have a battery back-up for medical equipment.

For information on emergency disaster services including shelters, please contact the Connecticut American Red Cross by dialing 877-287-3327 or online at www.ctredcross.org, and, for non-emergency services, please contact 2-1-1 by dialing 2-1-1 or online atwww.211ct.org.

You can also view CL&P's Outage Map or check out their Storm Center.

Remember to keep your mobile phones and other portable electronic devices plugged in tonight so they're fully charged in the event you lose power. If you have a land line, you're in luck; as antiquated as they now seem, they don't rely on electricity.

We'll no doubt receive one or more robo-call updates from the Town, and your HamletHub will keep you up to date on fallen trees, downed power lines, and other news of the winter storm.
