Late Afternoon View of Lakefront Landmarks

In this photograph to you can see buildings dating from Chicago's World's Fair of 1893, also known as the Columbian Exposition. These include the Art Institute of Chicago (bottom center) The Field Museum of Natural History (middle center) the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium (on the spit of landfill extending out into the lake). The White City built for the fair represented Chicago's recovery and return to prominence after the Chicago Fire of 1871. A few miles to the north stands the Water Tower, the only significant structure that survived the fire.
