The Westport Arts Center invites you to mesmerize and transfix with the media of your choice, for its annual juried group members’ themed exhibition.
The alchemy of the aesthetic experience is one which moves the common objects and ordinary structures of our existence into the realm of the extraordinary.
A work of art’s ability to transform our perception is a powerful magic, moving us to reconsider the illusions in our daily realities.
THE JURORS:
The Westport Arts Center has a tradition of inviting curators and directors from world class art institutions, including MASS MoCA, The Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Yale Art Gallery, to jury our annual members’ exhbitions. This year will be the first time our guest jurors come from the Chelsea Art Galleries in New York, which represent the cutting edge of the art world.
Elizabeth Koehn and Julia Mechtler, David Zwirner Gallery, NY. Prior to joining David Zwirner Gallery, Elizabeth spent three years working in the Private Sales office at Sotheby’s. Julia has a Masters in Visual Arts Administration from New York University and a BA in International Business from Oxford Brookes International Business School - Budapest.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Submission Deadline: October 17
Late Submission Deadline: October 24
Notification: November 4
Selected Artwork Drop Off: November 13
Opening Reception: November 21
Exhibition Closes: January 11
ELIGIBILITY:
Current membership at WAC through January 31, 2015 or become a member.
If you are unsure of your membership status, call 203.222.7070.
Artwork must be submitted by October 17, 2014.
Late entries will be accepted through October 24, 2014 for an additional $10 fee.
NOTIFICATION:
All artists will be notified by email and selected artists’ names will be posted on www.westportartscenter.org on Tuesday, November 4 at 5pm.
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
2-D work, including frame, may not exceed 72”
3-D work may not exceed 72” in any direction
No works may exceed 200 lbs.
WAC may edit artist selection based on space limitations.
PUBLICATION RIGHTS:
Your submission to Perception Illusion MAGIC signifies your grant of permission to WAC to reproduce work for promotional materials and your acceptance of all conditions stated in this prospectus.
SALES & INSURANCE:
Work should be for sale and Westport Arts Center will take a commission of 30% from any sales that occur to help support our visual arts programs. All works are insured by WAC while on site through the exhibition
pick-up date.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
To submit work to Perception Illusion MAGIC, visit www.westportartscenter.org and follow the instructions given on the website.
If you prefer to submit images on a CD, please call 203.222.7070 for more information.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Each artist may submit up to 2 pieces of artwork.
Images should be 1MB – 4 MB .jpg or .png.
Videos may be up to 500 MB and submitted as .mov, .mp4, or .wmv.
Artists have the option to submit their resume, artist statement, and a brief description of submitted works.

Entry Fee: $35
Young Artist (ages 25 and under) Entry Fee: $25.
Late Entry Fee: Additional $10
PAYMENT:
All payments will be securely processed with PayPal.
ARTIST TALKS:
Accepted artists will have the opportunity to present and discuss their artwork at the Westport Arts Center during Friday morning ArtCafé.
