The Bruce Museum's newest exhibit, Northern Baroque Splendor, the HOHENBUCHAU COLLECTION from: LIECHTENSTEIN, the Princely Collections, Vienna, opens Saturday, September 20th and runs until April 12, 2105. Dr. Peter C. Sutton, Executive Director of the museum gave a preview tour of the exhibit, which includes 64 paintings spanning the late 16th through early 19th centuries.
The Prince of Liechtenstein lent these paintings, created mostly by Dutch and Flemish masters, which represent almost all genres of Baroque culture as opposed to just one, such as still lifes. "The other unique point to note about this exhibit is that many of the paintings are collaborations of more than one artist," said Sutton. "It was rare during that time that an artist would allow another to paint on his canvas."
