Pequot Library's 17th Annual Art Show Fundraiser: Oct. 18

Southport, CT – On Saturday, October 18, from 6:30pm - 9:30pm, Pequot Library hosts its annual art fundraiser. Enjoy an evening of fine art, cocktails & hors d'oeuvres, plus a variety of silent auction items sure to please. Proceeds help support the vibrant programs for all ages at Pequot Library. The Art Show theme this year is: The Story of Art. Artists are storytellers, inviting viewers to imagine their own stories.

At the Gala, dine on passed hors d'oeuvres including tequila-marinated shrimp, smoked duck breast, Vietnamese spring rolls and many other delicacies. Feast on a Harvest Display of artisan cheeses, tapenades and brushettas, vegetables with dips, fresh fruit and an assortment of breads. Catering provided by Collyer Catering of Westport. The 2014 Art Show includes works by local award-winning artists, in all mediums. Judges for “Best in Show” are Ryan Odinak and Jane Sutherland. Pequot Library’s 17th Annual Art Show is part of National Arts and Humanities Month in October. The arts are a part of our lives each and every day, and the nation takes the whole month of October to commemorate and celebrate the arts in big ways, it’s National Arts & Humanities Month - the largest annual celebration for the arts and humanities in the nation! Americans for the Arts encourages organizations to offer free events in their communities.

Art Show viewing is free and open to the public all day Friday, October 17, 10am – 6pm; Saturday, October 18, 10am to 4pm; and Sunday, October 19, 11am - 4pm.

Other 17th Annual Art Show Activities include on Friday, October 17, from 4pm - 5:30pm, a Children's Activity: The Art of the Selfie. This is a hands-on workshop presented by The Painted Bird to create self-portraits as unique as the artists themselves. This program is good for ages 5+ and registration is required, plus a $5.00 materials fee. The Painted Bird creates programs in arts and crafts for kids of all ages.

On Saturday, October 18, from 10am - 4pm, local galleries share their “Stories of Art” in an Art Gallery Afternoon Experience. Local art galleries transform the Perkin Gallery with the work of their favorite artists. Come learn the story of Amy Simon Fine Art, ARC Fine Art, Art/Place, J. Russell Jinishian Gallery, Bruce S. Kershner Gallery, Southport Galleries, and Troy Fine Art Services.

Sunday, October 19, from 11am - 4pm, the public has a unique opportunity to have their own antiques and heirlooms appraised during the Appraisal Day: Antiques, Fine Art and Collectibles. Bring your treasures to Pequot Library; experts from NYC-based Heritage Auctions will evaluate your heirloom items.
