And Soon — The Great Duck Race: Saturday, June 4, 3:30 at Parker Harding Plaza

You know summer’s almost here when it’s once again time for Westport Sunrise Rotary’s Great Duck Race.

Rotary is all about helping others — Service Above Self — through direct hands on engagement and by raising and donating money for those in need.

The Duck Race helps the club raise money. You can pitch in, buy a $20 raffle ticket, help support a long list of local and global non profits and enjoy an afternoon in the sun (once again, sunshine is on order for Race Day). And perhaps win something yourself.

Look for the Rotarians wearing bright yellow shirts and their “Got Ducks” pins and get your ticket(s): At Art About Town, the Thursday Farmer’s Market, the Memorial Day Parade, and on weekends they’ll be manning a duck adorned table on Main Street.

Each ticket will have a number matching the number on a little yellow plastic duck.

On Race Day at post time the ducks will be dumped into a corral on the Saugatuck River. The bugle will call them to the post. Then they’re off. Watch the flock of ducks bob down the River, carried by the outflowing tide.

First duck to finish wins his ticket holder a $5,000 Visa Gift Card, second  place a $1,000 Card, and the next eight in all win $500 Cards for their ticket holders.

And there’s more. It’ll be a fun family afternoon with duck decorating, face painting, games and crafts for the kids, a bouncy castle — and a magician.  And food and drink.

Race day couldn’t happen without sponsors — Melissa & Doug; Castlekeep Investment Advisors; Patriot Bank; Eric Zielinski & Co., LLC; The Russell Agency; Berchem, Moses & Devlin, P.C., Attorneys; Gault; Garavel Chrysler Jeep; A.J. Penna & Son; Honda of Westport; and Amelie Babkie Web Design. Thank you, one and all.
