On Wednesday May 7th, the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield is sponsoring a special dinner to introduce prospective members to Kiwanis and recruit men and women who are interested in ongoing community service. The guest speaker for the event will be John Dahl who is an executive producer of ESPN Films. Currently, he oversees production of the network's critically acclaimed "30 for 30" film series, working with its star-studded roster of filmmakers and their teams. Other films he has worked on recently include The Greatest Game Ever Played, Kobe Doin' Work and Lost Son of Havana. Previously, Mr. Dahl oversaw production for the network's trio of Muhammad Ali tribute shows and the Sports Emmy-nominated special Ali Rap. In addition, he was responsible for the Ultimate NASCAR documentary-style series leading up to ESPN on ABC's first of 10 televised NEXTEL Cup races in 2007.
The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield has been active for over 50 years and is made up of men and women engaged in business, professional, institutional, and educational fields. Retirees from these fields are also eligible for membership. Our current membership comes from various business and professional careers. The club raises funds and donates time for high school scholarships, annual special projects with an emphasis on the youth of Fairfield, the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute as well as Kiwanis International projects like Young Children Priority One. The Kiwanis Club sponsors the Fairfield Warde and Ludlowe High School and the Notre Dame High School Key Clubs as well as sponsored the Fairfield University Circle K Club. Over the years they have help build new Kiwanis Clubs in other communities, participated in Americares Homefront Service Day, the Kiwanis One Day Clean Up, and the annual Read to Grow Book Drive.
