The Fresh Air Fund is about to reach a major milestone, and we're so thrilled to share it with you! Camp Mariah, the heart of The Fresh Air Fund's Career Awareness Program, celebrates its 20th Anniversary this summer.
Fresh Air Fund Board Member Mariah Carey founded Camp Mariah in 1994 because of her belief that every child has the potential to look inside herself and be strong.
Camp Mariah helps inner-city children do just that. They get to explore careers in an intensive, three-and-a-half week summer session. Through interactive classes and workshops, they're exposed to fields they may never have dreamed of: science, technology, journalism, fashion design, international relations, dance and many more. During the school year, Career Awareness students also participate in tutoring, mentoring and job shadowing programs.
Camp Mariah teaches campers about setting goals and making positive choices. And they also get to enjoy all the fun activities that make summer camp so special, like hiking and swimming.
