Tuesday, Sept. 2 Poetry in Motion – Breaking the Mold: Submissions “Breaking the Mold,” is a two-performance, poetry and arts event centered around the theme of daring to be different, unique or unconventional! Teens (grade 7 - 12) are invited to submit poetry in keeping with this topic. Submissions accepted September 1 through October 31. Approximately thirty works will be selected for inclusion in the performances. Poems will be paired with music, dance or art in live performances in March 2015. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 10, 17 & 24 Innovation Station Teen Open Session, 3 – 6 p.m. Wilton Library’s new Innovation Station is open to teens ages 13 – 18. Stop in and experiment with Garage Band, iMovie, iPhoto or Final Cut Pro on our iMac; use our Creative Cloud subscription to work with Photoshop, Dreamweaver or Illustrator; create wallets and lanyards with Duct Tape; watch a 3D object being printed or use any of the equipment you’ve been certified on. Wednesday, Sept. 3 Author Talk:  Wendy Corsi Staub—The Perfect Stranger, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Wilton Library welcomes New York Times andUSA Today bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub for a discussion of her newest novel, The Perfect Stranger.  No stranger to thrillers, Wendy explores the world of Internet predators for the second time in this novel in which a group of breast-cancer bloggers must come to terms with the death of a fellow-blogger—who was viciously murdered. Tuesday, Sept. 9 Breast Cancer Survivors' Support Group, 6 – 8 p.m.  A monthly support group for post-treatment cancer survivors is held at Wilton Library. The Breast Cancer Survival Center, a Fairfield county non-profit, has been holding support groups, retreats and candlelightings for the past 12 years. Saturday, Sept. 13 New Perspectives Film Series:  Finding Vivian Maier, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.  Finding Vivian Maier is a critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny who took over 100,000 photos and secreted them away in storage lockers.  Her work is now regarded as one of the 20th century’s greatest photographers. Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel.   Suggested donation of $5. Refreshments served. The New Perspectives Documentary series is programmed and moderated by filmmaker, Megan Smith-Harris. Tuesday, Sept. 16 Author Talk: Philippa Gregory—The King’s Curse, 7 – 8:30 p.m.  #1 New York Times Bestselling author Philippa Gregory visits Wilton Library to discuss her latest novel, The King’s Curse, the next volume of the Cousins’ War series.  The Starz Network show, The White Queen, is based on these works.  The King's Curse follows Henry VIII's stratospheric rise to power through the story of deposed royal Lady Margaret Pole. Gregory offers a revolutionary new portrait of the best-known king in history, recasting Henry as an abuser, serial killer, and war criminal.  This dark and haunting novel also suggests a decline in mental health leading to a policy of murderous tyranny. Tuesday, Sept. 23 Nifty Nutmeggers Book Club, 3 – 4 p.m. Children in grades 4 and 5 are invited to join Wilton Library’s new Nutmeg book club. The Nutmeg Book Award is a program designed for kids in the state of Connecticut.  Each year children have the opportunity to read ten carefully chosen books and then vote for their favorite in May.  There are two levels for children: Elementary (grades 2-4) and Intermediate (grades 4-6).  In this club kids can choose to read one of the assigned monthly books or all two or three.  We will come together to discuss the books, have snacks, play games, and do other fun book-related activities.  This month's book choices are Happy Like Soccerby Maribeth Boelts (Elem.) and Spy School by Stuart Gibbs (Inter.) Saturday, Sept. 27 Wilton Reads Book Giveaway: Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The 2014 selection for Wilton Library's community reads program, Wilton Reads, is the modern American classic Ragtime, by E.L. Doctorow, one of America's most accomplished and acclaimed living writers. Ragtime captures the spirit of America in the era between the turn of the century and the First World War and is part of the Modern Library collection of the 100 best novels of all time. Courtesy of Fairfield County Bank, 100 copies of Ragtime will be distributed free on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10 a.m. in the library Gallery.
