Opening Reception for Two New Exhibits at the Norwalk Historical Society Museum

The Norwalk Historical Society will be holding an opening reception for two new exhibits, Eating Off the Landscape: The Farrington-Lockwood Dessert Service and Americana, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm at the new Norwalk Historical Society Museum, 141 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.  Parking is available at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue. Come celebrate two new exhibits!  Eating off the Landscape: The Farrington-Lockwood Dessert Service, curated by Elizabeth Pratt Fox, highlights the exquisite Farrington-Lockwood collection, 21 pieces from the French porcelain dessert service, hand-painted with old-fashioned scenes and famous buildings including St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Windsor Castle. Discover its history and test your knowledge as you play, “Can You Find Me?” where you will be given a hint about the building and asked to find the plate.  As part of the opening reception, sample a slice of traditional English pound cake and take home a recipe card to bake your own and enjoy on your family's dessert service.

Americana, curated by Judith Bacal, features a collection of Revolutionary War and Civil War era artifacts representing a piece of Norwalk’s cultural heritage during these events.  The 23k Gold Leaf Eagle sculpture created by local artist and historian, John G. Kurtzman, is the only contemporary piece in the exhibit and symbolizes the freedom of the American spirit.

In addition, visitors will be able to experience the museum's other exhibits which include: Norwalk Collects: Celebrating Four Historic Collections, curated by Elizabeth Pratt Fox, and Norwalk: Portrait of Diversity, with photography by Tony Velez.  The gift shop will be open and features works by the “June Artist of the Month” Karen Ponelli. The shop is filled with one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted items by Connecticut artists. Spend an evening surrounded by history.
