Wilton Library kicks off Summer Music & More Concert Series July 7

The temperature and humidity are rising which are sure signs that summer is coming.  Another sign is that Wilton Library is gearing up for its 16th Annual Summer Music & More Concert Series on four consecutive Thursday nights in July, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This year’s bands bring a variety of sounds including the Great American Songbook, Motown, the big brass sounds of the ’70s and blues/funk.  The series is once again made possible with the generous sponsorship from The Village Market.

Tim Dolnier, co-owner of The Village Market noted, “The concerts are a favorite in the community as a place to gather, hear great music, enjoy free refreshments and wine, and just enjoy a nice summer evening.”

Mike Picheco, also a co-owner of the Market concurred, “It’s a great way to get the weekend started and we’re delighted to be able to do this for the 16th year in a row.”

The line-up for the popular concert series is as follows:

July 7 Pocketful of Soul out of the Stratford area opens the series recreating the sounds of’70s big brass covering songs by Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Tower of Power and more. Members include J.J. Martin-lead vocals, Frank Barrese-guitar, Mike Ornato-bass, William Grodzki-trumpet, Anthony Masi-baritone, tenor, alto sax, Bob DeLagrange-trumpet, Charley Marenghi-trombone, Wille Bradford-Hammond organ-keys, and Gene Zwicharowski-drums.  Its most recent appearance was the Branford Festival.

July 14 The Motown Review Band from Norwalk performs classic hits of the ’60s Detroit sound. The library expects lots of “dancing in the streets.”

July 21 Creamery Station joins the line up with their funk/blues sound and the harmonica playing of Don DeStefano. Concertgoers might recognize Don from his appearances with the Bernadettes who have performed at the library numerous times. Band members include Dan Kadar-vocals, mandolin, guitar, percussion; Harry Cooper-vocals, drums; Jim Kader (also from The Bernadettes) – guitar; Dan Raucci – bass; Mike Ryan – percussion; and John Truelson-vocals, keyboard.

July 28 Echoes of Sinatra with Steve Kazlauskas will be returning for the fourth year to close out the library’s concert series. Steve is a popular storyteller and crooner who brings the Chairman of the Board right into the room to the audience’s delight.

The free Summer Music & More concerts take place rain or shine thanks to Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room and courtyard.  People can choose to enjoy the concerts indoors in air conditioned comfort or sit in the courtyard taking in the splendor of a summer evening.  The free refreshments are provided by the library with wine generously donated by Michael Crystal. There is no registration for the concerts which are open to everyone. Wilton Library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road in the heart of Wilton Center.  For more information and directions, visit www.wiltonlibrary.org or call 203-762-6334.
