Dining at the Boathouse---Rave Reviews and River Views

The weather is warming and the Saugatuck can be seen again as its icy blanket finally melts. With spring almost in the air, there's no better time to enjoy an amazing meal overlooking the river at Westport's premier waterfront dining venue---the Boathouse.

Set atop the Saugatuck Rowing Club, the Boathouse features organic, farm-to-table food, with everything made in-kitchen by a crew of culinary experts. The menu changes seasonally, and current offerings include a caprese salad with cherry tomatoes and farm-fresh basil, linguine al dente with clam sauce, melt-in-your-mouth crabcakes, and a lobster roll that rivals those served beachside in the Hamptons.

I had the privilege of enjoying lunch at the Boathouse recently, and the entire experience was both splendid and delicious.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. through 3:00 p.m., with dinner service from 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. The Boathouse is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Chef/Owner Raffaele Gallo hails from Capri, Italy, and his other restaurants include Tiella in Manhattan, Gran Gusto in Boston, Gallo Ristorante in Ridgefield, and the just-opened Barolo in New Canaan. The Boathouse is the perfect place to taste Italy in Westport.

In addition to offering the ideal spot for anyone who wants to experience a gourmet meal with river views, the Boathouse provides full-service premier catering to make your special events memorable and spectacular. The Boathouse is perfect for weddings, rehearsal dinners, christenings, bridal and baby showers, bar and bat mitzvahs, birthday celebrations, memorials, and non-profit and corporate catering events, for anywhere from 10 to 200 guests.

The Boathouse is located in the Saugatuck Rowing Club on the second floor at 521 Riverside Avenue. For reservations, call 203 227 3399 or use Open Table online.
