Creative Connections’ International Student Art Comes to Life in Summer Exhibit at The Maritime Aquarium

TEAM Up Art Exhibit Opens May 25 in Norwalk, Connecticut Featuring Hand Crafted Art by Dozens of Global Student Participants

Creative Connections, a Connecticut-based international cultural education nonprofit, presents its annual ArtLink exhibit featuring artwork created by student participants under the 2017 theme of “TEAM Up.” Students throughout the United States and in classrooms around the globe created artwork emphasizing community, collaboration and volunteerism for the purpose of achieving a shared goal. This year’s ArtLink theme was inspired by the concept of ‘Minga,’ the Ecuadorian practice of collaboration between friends and neighbors who volunteer their time, effort, or funds to achieve a shared goal for the betterment of the community.

“This year’s theme offered our ArtLink students the opportunity to reflect on their culture and values in order to produce artwork that represents the amazing variety of ways teamwork is practiced in their community or home. Our students created and shared pieces ranging anywhere from brothers working together to round up their family’s cattle (Nigeria), to community members growing food in a communal garden to help the hungry (USA), to school mates taking the time to welcome and comfort a new refugee student (Jordan), and many more. Partner students from here and abroad have recognized that despite the existence of their cultural differences, there are many similarities in how teamwork and collaboration run through the roots of each of their communities.  It has been inspiring to see this recognition and mutual understanding unfold in children as young as 8 years old,” said Alan Steckler, Founder and CEO of Creative Connections.
