CT Audubon Society Receives Two New Grants

Fairfield, CT - The Connecticut Audubon Society has announced receipt of two major new grants.

"One will help us bring the principles of conservation science to 1,700 school children in Manchester, East Hartford, and Windham County, through our Science in Nature program. The other will lead to big improvements for birds and other wildlife at a sanctuary in Westport," says spokesperson Tom Andersen.

1. Science in Nature
The SBM Charitable Foundation of Manchester awarded CTAS a $61,000 grant to bring its award-winning Science in Nature program to elementary school kids in 79 classes in East Hartford, Manchester, Killingly and Putnam. The grant will also allow the Society to tailor training programs for participating teachers, so the lessons of Science in Nature will continue into the future.

2. H. Smith Richardson Restoration
The Long Island Sound Futures Fund awarded CTAS a grant of almost $146,000 to plant 1,200 trees and shrubs chosen for their value to birds and other wildlife at the preserve, which is in Westport. The Society will also continue work on a two-acre pollinator meadow there.
