Downtown Cabaret Theatre Presents A Raisin in the Sun

Bridgeport, CT - The Downtown Cabaret Theatre’s Main Stage Theatre division (Producing Artistic Director, Eli Newsom) continues its 2017/18 season with the beloved play A RAISIN IN THE SUN, by Lorraine Hansberry.

February 2 - February 18, 2018

Fridays @ 7:30pm

Saturdays @ 5pm & 8:15pm

Sundays @ 6:00pm

In Lorraine Hansberry’s classic, an African American woman, Lena Younger, lives with her extended family in a cramped apartment on Chicago’s South Side. On their unknowing behalf, she places a down payment on a home in Clybourne Park—an affordable white neighborhood. Racial intolerance attempts to derail the family’s dreams in this 1959 masterpiece, which “changed American theater forever” (New York Times) and continues to resonate with generation after generation.

Director Brian Crook, "Black History month is a time when we celebrate the contributions of extraordinary black Americans like Lorraine Hansberry. Mounting a production of A Raisin in the Sun during this special month gets to the core of what I think Hansberry was trying to celebrate in her plays...the black FAMILY.”

The cast includes Jahi Kassa Taharqa as Walter Lee Younger, Noel Ginyard as Ruth Younger, LaMarr Taylor as Lena "Mama" Younger, MayTae Harge as Beneatha Younger, Sana "Prince" Sarr and Ajibola "Keeme" Tajudeen sharing the role of Travis Younger, Avery Owens as George, Garth West as Joseph Asagai, Elijah Manning as Bobo, Eric Dino as Karl Lindner, and Marques Christopher as the Moving Man.

The production’s creative team is led by Director Brian Crook, with Scenic Designer William Russell Stark, Costume Designer Jessica Camarero, Lighting Designer Phill Hill, Sound Designer Chris Gensur, and Production Stage Manager Alec Smith.
