Stamford Resident Charged in Fatal Accident on I-95 in Westport

On September 28 at 6:55 pm, vehicle 1, a tractor-trailor driven by Thomas Patrick Reynolds of Woodbury, was traveling on I-95 southbound (north of exit 17) in the right lane. The vehicle was approaching the Saugatuck River Bridge in Westport. 

Vehicle 2, a Mercedes sedan driven by Ramses Taylor of Stamford, was traveling in the center lane. Contact was made between the passenger side of vehicle 2 and the driver side of vehicle 1. That impact caused vehicle 1 to veer to the right, strike the metal beam guardrail off of right shoulder and flip onto its driver side.  Vehicle 1 then struck a light pole, then, a tree, and finally caught fire.  Vehicle 2 also veererd to the right and struck the concrete barrier of the Saugatuck River Bridge on the right. 

Operator of vehicle 1 was pronounced dead at the scene by Westport Fire personnel. Operator 2 reported no injuries. 

Ramses Taylor, operator of Vehicle 2, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, transported to Troop G, processed and released on a $10,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to answer to his charge of DWI in violation of CT General Statutes. However, the accident is under investigation and other charges are expected at the conclusion of the investigation.
