Register Now for the Run Walk for Health & Hunger 5K

The Run Walk for Health & Hunger to benefit The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County will kick off at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015, starting and finishing at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, 1 Blachley Road, in Stamford, Conn. The 5K USATF-certified course travels through Stamford and Cove Beach Park roadways.  Mayor David Martin of Stamford will officially start the event. This is the only run walk in Fairfield County that supports hunger and 100 percent of the event net proceeds and funds raised by teams will be donated to The Food Bank.

The entry fee is $30 per adult plus three nonperishable food items and $15 per child (ages 7 to 15) plus one nonperishable food item. There is no charge for children aged 6 and under. Teams are encouraged to participate. The team raising the most money will receive special recognition. The first 250 registered participants will receive a t-shirt, race bib, goody bag and finisher’s medal. Prizes will be awarded to overall winners and first, second and third place age group winners, male and female. Beth Foster, Star 99.9 Midday Host, will serve as the announcer. After the Run Walk, race refreshments and an awards presentation will take place inside at Chelsea Piers at the 4th Annual Stamford Hospital Health Wellness & Sports Expo 2015 which is free and open to the public and includes complimentary health screenings for adults by Stamford Hospital, activities for children and more than 90 exhibitors.  The Expo will take place on Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 18, from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m.

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County serves Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan and Wilton. “Hunger is a serious problem in our communities and we are grateful that this event will help fill our warehouse with much needed food for the holidays,” said Kate Lombardo, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.
