WCHN and Ann’s Place Celebrate 30th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day®

Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) and Ann’s Place will host a celebration of life for cancer survivors on Sunday, June 4, 2017. Cancer survivors who have received treatment and support services through WCHN or Ann’s Place are invited to attend, along with a guest.

Event registration is required by May 29th. Attendance is free, and seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to register early. Register HERE.

Western Connecticut Health Network works closely with Ann’s Place, a community-based cancer support organization offering group and individual support, as well as many wellness programs.

This year marks the 30th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day® -- a celebration for those who have survived cancer, an inspiration for people who were recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families, and an outreach to the community.

The co-sponsored event takes place onSunday, June 4, 2017 at the  Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Avenue, Danbury, Connecticut. Check-in opens at 8:30 am and the program begins at 9 am and concludes at 11:30 am There is no fee to attend this event.

Featured Guest Speaker

Enjoy the morning eating breakfast with friends while making new connections and laughing along with this year’s featured and returning speaker Gina Barreca, one of the world’s leading experts on why humor is one of life’s greatest survival strategies.

Gina Barreca is a well-known author, speaker, and a professor of English and Feminist Theory at the University of Connecticut. She’s appeared on 20/20, The Today Show, CNN, the BBC, Dr. Phil, NPR and Oprah and has been called “smart and funny” by People Magazine and “very, very funny for a woman,” by Dave Barry.

Ms. Barreca, a popular weekly columnist for the Hartford Courant, is now syndicated by the Tribune Company and her columns appear worldwide. She is the author of the 2016 book If You Lean In, Will Men Just Look Down Your Blouse? Questions and Thoughts for Loud, Smart Women in Turbulent Times, which was an ELLE Reader’s Prize selection and excerpted in Reader’s Digest. She has written several books that have been translated into many world languages and the books she’s edited, all sixteen of them, have made her one of the world’s leading experts on why humor is one of life’s greatest survival strategies. A beloved Professor of English at the University of Connecticut for thirty years, Gina has won UConn’s highest award for excellence in teaching. One of the first women to graduate from Dartmouth College, Gina was a Reynolds Fellow at Cambridge University and obtained her Ph.D. from the City University of New York.
