UConn Women Win National Championship, Complete Perfect Season

The UConn Women crushed Notre Dame 79-58 on Tuesday night to become National Champions and complete a perfect 40-0 season.

The Lady Huskies had a seven point lead coming out of halftime but went full throttle in a second half that resulted in the blowout victory. UConn had a well balanced effort from its star players led by AP Player of the Year, Breanna Stewart, who had 21 points in the win. Stewart had plenty of support from her teammates with three others scoring in double figures including 18 from Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, 17 from Stefanie Dolson, and 13 from Bria Hartley. Notre Dame guard Kayla McBride tied Stewart in points and ended up with 21 in the losing effort.

UConn's win marks it's ninth NCAA Championship which is the most all-time, and it is also Coach Geno Auriemma's ninth title win which broke a tie with legendary Coach Pat Summitt, and under Auriemma, it is the Huskies fifth undefeated season.
