Voices Cafe Presents THE SUZANNE SHERIDAN BAND - The Music of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell

A recent sold-out performance at The Westport Historical Society convinced the producers at Voices Café that an encore performance of “THE SUZANNE SHERIDAN BAND performs The Music of Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell” would be just the thing for a Saturday night in January. What better way to warm the winter than with the outstanding music of Carole, Carly, and Joni? This concert features Suanne Sheridan, one of Westport’s favorite singer-songwriters, performing the songs of three of the most accomplished women singer-songwriters of our time. The concert will take place on Saturday, January 24 starting at 8 p.m. Voices Café is located at The Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport.

Suzanne will once again have her band on hand – Bob Cooper on keyboards, Ruth Ahlers on sax and backup vocals, and Marshal Rosenberg on percussion. In addition to these stellar musicians, Suzanne will be joined by singers Kim Manning (Voodoocarnival.com) and Denise Johnson (Tim Currie’s Motown Band) on backup.

“We are excited to be performing this concert again. We had such a blast at the Westport Historical Society and now Voices Café and joined by Kim and Denise. Carole and Carly and Joni literally changed the face of popular music. All the musicians love playing this music and needless to say, the audience loves singing along,” Sheridan, continued. “They taught an entire generation to define themselves through their own unfiltered emotions of pain, joy, love, desire, losing and winning in songs that rocked the world.” They surely, deeply and personally affected Sheridan and helped her realize just how much one could express in a song.

Sheridan and her band will perform such iconic songs as King's “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,”It's Too Late,” andUp On the Roof”; Mitchell's “A Case of You,”Big Yellow Taxi,” and  “Woodstock”and Simon's “You Belong to Me,”You're So Vain,”Anticipation” andHaven't Got Time for the Pain,” among others.

Launched in the fall of 2011, Voices Cafe has filled a need in the Westport community where people can hear world-class musicians from many genres and that aim to expand on the Unitarian Church’s rich musical tradition while supporting "social justice, community, stewardship and spiritual nourishment"- values championed by the church, according to Tom Hearne, a member of the Voices Café staff.

Tickets for this concert ($20 in advance or $25 at the door) can be purchased online at http://voicescafe.org/buy-tickets/.   Audience members are encouraged to bring their own beverages and snacks as seating is cabaret-style at round tables. There is the option of reserving a table for groups of 6 or more people. For information or reservations contact David Vita at 203-227-7205 ext. 14, or by emailing him at david@uuwestport.org.
