Saving a Species – An Inside Look at the WCC’s Endangered Species Program

DESCRIPTION: The Wolf Conservation Center participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) and Recovery Plan for two different kinds of wolves, both critically endangered: the Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf. But what does this really mean? Join us to learn what it takes to help save a species from the brink of extinction. Guests will get an inside look at the process of matching potential breeders, what criteria must be met to recommend wolves for release into the wild, the husbandry challenge of caring for animals that we rarely see and how it feels to help Mexican gray wolves and red wolves resume their rightful place in the wild. Guests will visit the WCC's Ambassador wolves as well as the WCC’s critically endangered Mexican gray wolves and red wolves. Each guest will receive an official 2014 Wolf Awareness Week poster! DESCRIPTION: Get outside during the holidays at the Wolf Conservation Center! Join the WCC for a mythology program discussing the relationship between the wolves and humans of the past.
