Home Care by RVNA Now Offering High-Quality, Affordable Non-Medical Home Health Services

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – (July 21, 2014) – Finding high-quality, reliable, affordable non-medical home health care for loved ones can be challenging. As the 76 million Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 begin to require more assistance to live on their own, that challenge will become even greater.

To address this vital need, Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) has formed Home Care by RVNA (HCRVNA) which provides essential, but non-medical, home health care services ranging from light housekeeping duties to hands on personal care. These non-medical services are not typically covered by standard health insurance plans, or Medicare.

HCRVNA is now offering these non-medical services at rates that are 25% or more below those of comparable medically supervised services. They are also competitive with, or better than, those of non-medical organizations in Connecticut that do not offer the benefit of an affiliation with RVNA.

Led by veteran home health care executive Artie Pilson, HCRVNA provides live-in, home health and certified nurse's aides all backed by RVNA's 100-year history of quality care and service to the community. "It was RVNA's commitment to quality and service, and the exceptional leadership of Theresa Santoro, that attracted me to this wonderful opportunity," Mr. Pilson said. "We want to help people age comfortably in place, or perhaps take a first step towards assisted living or a skilled nursing facility if need," he added.

He said HCRVNA specializes in home care for persons with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke conditions and other chronic illnesses.

"This new service responds to the emerging need for affordable, competitively priced, reliable, stay-at-home, age-in-place care for people who just need a helper in the house," said RVNA President and CEO Theresa Santoro. She said that HCRVNA complements RVNA's successful Quality Living at Home (QLAH) program that offers seniors the information they need to remain independent in their homes with support from a safe, healthy, and socially connected environment. Today there are about 500 seniors who participate in and enjoy the benefits of this program.

"With 100 years of experience providing skilled nursing services in the home we have earned a reputation for quality and service," Ms. Santoro said, "and HCRVNA will reflect that tradition."

"We are also very aware of the importance of screening workers who come into your home, and background checks and performance evaluations of HCRVNA staff are all performed to the highest RVNA standards," she said.

"Finally, I want to emphasize how thrilled we are to have Artie Pilson, with his years of successful work in the non-medical agency field, join our RVNA team and lead this important new addition to the RVNA continuum of care. We have great confidence that he will help this new business thrive and soar," Ms. Santoro said.

Home help services provided by HCRVNA include, but are not limited to laundry, bed and linen change, meal preparation and cleanup, food safety monitoring, pet care, shopping and Lifeline Medical Alert. Personal care services include bathing and dressing, toileting, fitness and exercise, personal grooming, assistance with eating, medication reminders, and transportation.
