Create a Bird Friendly Backyard with Backyad Birders

Backyard birders: Katie Blake, second from right, Greenwich-based bird friendly communities coordinator for Audubon Connecticut, appears with, left to right, John Moeling, president of the Norwalk Land Trust, Rob Frazier, environmental community activist, and Betsy Bain, vice president of Rowayton Gardeners, after addressing a capacity crowd at the Rowayton Community Center for a free public lecture on attracting songbirds to the backyard.

The Norwalk Tree Alliance and the Sixth Taxing District were other sponsors of the evening.

Blake told attendees that a key to creating a bird-friendly environment is installing native plants of wildlife values such as black cherry trees, shadbush and viburnums.
