Snow and Frigid Temps Heading Into Weekend

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued from 10 pm this evening to 10 am Friday for a 1 to 4 inch snowfall, mainly along the I-95 corridor including Metro NYC, Long Island and coastal CT.

NOAA advises residents to prepare for potential impacts from a widespread snowfall with sub-freezing temperatures tonight through Friday morning as low pressure moves off the southern mid-Atlantic coast tonight.

The heaviest snow is forecast from northeast NJ east across NYC, Long Island and southern CT; mainly 1 am-4 am west of NYC and 4 am-7 am NYC east.

Up to 2 inches of snow is forecast across the northern portions of the local area through Friday morning.

Temperatures are forecast to average around 5 degrees below normal through Friday, then near 10 degrees below normal Saturday and Sunday.

NOAA says that the probability of a measurable snowfall during Saturday, January 7, is increasing, mainly east of NYC where models show another low developing off the southeast coast Saturday and moving offshore Sunday.  Although forecast uncertainty remains high, models are trending further west with this system. Strong gusty winds and very cold temperatures will follow, producing low wind chills Sunday, January 8 through early Monday, bottoming out near zero late Sunday night through Monday morning.
