Celebrating the holidays with tea and tastings

Rounding out a year of celebrations, members of the Wilton Senior Center enjoyed a holiday teacup luncheon and hot soup tasting, sponsored by Laurel Ridge Health Care Center, on December 20. The luncheon was particularly special as long-time members reflected on the year and shared their stories of the upcoming holidays with each other while they relaxed tasting six different hot soups from the local Roly Poly restaurant and enjoyed homemade tea sandwiches and assorted desserts prepared by Thomas Marshall, Head Chef and Director of Dining Services, and Providence Donahue, at Laurel Ridge. The gourmet soup selection samples consisted of tomato bisque, harvest mushroom bisque, fresh vegetable, loaded baked potato and bacon, spicy beef chili with beans, and broccoli and cheddar. There was no clear favorite as all were delicious. For older adults, the benefits of the luncheon gatherings such as this provide healthy eating and social bonding, which are key to a positive outlook and staying emotionally balanced. Gathering together to enjoy the lunch at the Senior Center is a weekly tradition carried on throughout the year. The center is very active with programming every weekday, with the exception of major holidays.
