Walmart Coming to Monroe; Monroe Chamber Responds, Rallies Local Businesses

On July 22nd, a company spokesman confirmed that Walmart would be opening a big box store off of Main Street in Monroe, CT. This announcement was received with mixed emotions from many people in town.

In response to the news, the Chamber recently reaffirmed the organization's full support for local businesses in a letter of support, offering their help moving forward. Chamber members enjoy certain benefits, including the Chamber's help in hosting an open house, as well as promotion in local and social media outlets. But the Chamber's main goal looking ahead is clearly to instill confidence and a sense of unity among local businesses:

"This is the time to act and show Monrovians how great your business is," says Brendan M. Mckeon in the Chamber letter. "Wal-Mart will be able to sell many things, but no business can match your passion, knowledge, service and local track record for excellence!"
