First Pumpktober is coming to Ridgefield

What happens when you take all the goodness of October and merge it into one fun-filled weekend? You get Pumpktober! Named for the combination of pumpkins and Oktoberfest, this weekend event will be held October 17th, 11am-9pm and October 18th, 11am-5pm on the Lounsbury House grounds.

Organized by The Ridgefield Sunrise Rotary Club in conjunction with the Lounsbury House, Pumpktober will include rides, games, pumpkin carving, live music and lots of food prepared by local vendors. It’s no coincidence that Fall in Love with Ridgefield takes place along Main Street the same weekend.  Pumpktober is meant to be an extension of that favored annual fall festival.

“Fall in Love with Ridgefield is a great event which we’ve always been a part of,” Event Organizer Rich Vazzana says. “We asked ourselves, ‘Is there a way to include the newly renovated Lounsbury House to help charity, bring people to town, and capture Oktoberfest and pumpkins?’”  The answer is “yes.” Proceeds will benefit The Ridgefield Playhouse, Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, Lion’s Heart, Prospector Theater and Lounsbury House

PUMPKIN ILLUMINATION

On the night of October 17, everyone will be treated to an awesome view of hundreds of illuminated pumpkins lining the balcony of the Lounsbury House. Throughout the day on Saturday, for $10 to help create our pumpkin luminary, children are welcome to carve the 350 pumpkins brought over from Ridgefield’s Jesse Lee Church. Those same jack-o’-lanterns will be the focus point when the sun sets and they are all lit at 7pm.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS

Come and celebrate! Music by Your Way Entertainment and the Blue Sky Band will be there for people to dance or enjoy while walking the grounds. Delicious food will be available by: The Hideaway, Fifty Coins, Hoo Doo Brown BBQ, Odeen’s, King Kone, The Alpenhaus Restaurant, Spud Stud, Tampa Food Truck, Sprout Creek Farm, Fire Truck Pizza,  One Hungry Food Truck and Zawack Shack

To set the Oktoberfest mood, of course there will be beer, beer and more beer for 21-and-older guests. Look for the beer trucks and tents. Also, what’s Oktoberfest without lederhosen? The lederhosen have been ordered; stay tuned to see where they’ll appear.

Attendees will also have the chance to visit booths by local vendors, including Ridgefield Hardware, Next Step Living and Edwin Lema. Kids and fun-seeking adults will enjoy the inflatable obstacle course, bungee jumping, padded sumo wrestling, bounce houses, rides and much more.

Organizers are preparing for 2,000-3,000 guests. Every day, new rides and booths are being added. Check the Pumpktober Facebook Page for current news.
