Colonial History Day Celebration at the Norwalk Historical Society's Mill Hill Historic Park

Celebrate the Colonial days at Mill Hill Historic Park, 2 East Wall Street in Norwalk, on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM.  The Colonial History Day Celebration is a free family event that features a variety of activities, including a performance by local children's theatre, Crystal Theatre and a special visit from Jim's Ice Cream Truck.  Hunt for History Scavenger Hunt clue booklets will also be collected at the event up until 3:00pm for those who would like to be submitted into a drawing for prizes.

Explore Colonial life in Norwalk! From 2:00pm – 3:00pm visit Hannah Hall Fitch at the Governor Fitch Law office and learn how the colonists lived and worked.  Step back in time with School Mistress Benedict and experience school life in the 1826 Little Red Schoolhouse. Write with quill and ink, practice your arithmetic on a slate and try to avoid wearing the dunce cap! Relax during Colonial Story time as you listen to a tale about a colonial child and her many grueling chores and don't forget to visit Jim's Ice Cream Truck to purchase a sweet treat!

At 3:00pm Crystal Theatre will be presenting the musical, “Daughters of Liberty”, written by local playwright, Cheryl Kemeny.  As Dame Raymond and her friends gather for the weekly sewing bee at Betts Tavern news arrives that the British are coming to Norwalk! With danger at their doorstep, how will the citizens of Norwalk protect the town from British General Tryon's torch? Performed by a talented cast of area high school students, “Daughters of Liberty” will bring the days leading up to the infamous Burning of Norwalk to life.

For those who participated in the Hunt for History two week scavenger hunt, return completed clue books by 3:00pm to be submitted for a prize drawing which will take place at 3:30pm.  You must be present to win! Don't know about the Hunt for History? Visit www.norwalkhistoricalsociety.org to download a clue booklet and begin your hunt!
