Discovery Center at Ridgefield hosts Butterfly Walk on August 6

Butterfly Walk with Mr. Victor DeMasi

The Discovery Center at Ridgefield is hosting a Butterfly program for all ages on Sunday, August 6th at 10:00 A.M. in the parking area at the Norwalk River parking area (the intersection of Route 7 and Simpaug Turnpike) Ridgefield, CT.

Local lepidopterist Victor DeMasi will lead this program about butterflies and local fauna.  Mr. DeMasi will share a collection of the local fauna with a short discussion on butterfly ecology and conservation.  The program will continue with a field walk in one of the most outstanding meadows in Connecticut to observe butterflies on the wing and present a few specimens for close examination, which will be released unharmed.

Victor DeMasi is a research associate at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. He has studied butterflies for the last forty years in Connecticut and far away places such as the Amazon basin and Ethiopia.

Participants can park in the Norwalk River Study site's small parking lot across from Victor's driveway at 10 Simpaug Turnpike at 10 am.  Long pants and sturdy shoes and tick protection are advised.

Program will be rain or shine!  In case of inclement weather, an alternative program will be presented by Mr. DeMasi at the same location.

All ages are welcome.  Members are free, and non-members are $7 per person. Please call 203.438.1063 or visit the DC website www.ridgefielddiscovery.org to make reservations.
