Community Forum: The Next Step...Senior Solutions with the RVNA

The entire Ridgefield community is invited to a special community forum on September 13 devoted to the issues, challenges and decisions that senior citizens – and their families – face during the aging process.  “The Next Step…Senior Solutions” will consist of a panel of local experts, who will discuss their areas of expertise and take questions from the audience.  Additionally, other local senior service providers and resources will be in attendance to answer questions and contribute to the conversation.

According to Barbara Newland, Director of Community Health & Wellness for RVNA, “The goal of this event is to take an in-depth look at the decisions seniors face and the choices available to help them maintain their highest level of independence in our community.”

“We have brought together a variety of local experts that can address the many challenges and issues that arise as people age,” she added.

The event will begin with a skit portraying a scene that many families can relate to, and thus set the stage for the discussion to follow. The skit will be performed by Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Ridgefield Playhouse Executive Director Allison Stockel and Ridgefield Crossings Move-In Coordinator-Concierge Michelle Kola. Marconi will play an elderly father, with Stockel and Kola playing his adult daughters, one local and one from out of town.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Lizabeth Doty, a member of the Ridgefield Commission on Aging.  Panelists will be William Crawford, Executive Director of Ridgefield Crossings; Judith Hyland, Director of Social Services at Laurel Ridge Health Care; Elba Tirhado-Armstrong, RN, Senior Clinical Manager at RVNA; Patrick Walsh, attorney with Hastings, Cohan & Walsh, LLP; and Tony Phillips, Director of Social Services for the Town of Ridgefield.

This event will take place at RVNA’s Center for Exceptional Care, located at 27 Governor Street in downtown Ridgefield, on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm.  It is free and open to the public.  Please sign up by calling RVNA at 203-438-5555.
