Wilton Conservatory of Dance Announces Summer Musical Theater Camps

The Wilton Conservatory of Dance is pleased to announced a new summer Musical Theater Camp program beginning in June. The camps are for children ages 3.5 through age 8 and introduces kids to the art of theater through song, dance, improvisation, theater games and more. 

Musical Theater Camp is taught Wendy Ann Mitchell, a singer, bass player, writer, teacher, DJ and musical theater director. She studied Child Development at Post University and received her Head Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education through the State of Connecticut in 2008. Wendy has over 25 years of experience teaching including 15 years teaching Musical Theater to children and teens in the Greater Danbury area.

As a current, active member of both the Ridgefield Arts Council, the Ridgefield Youth Commission and a former member of the Bethel Arts Commission, Wendy is passionate about promoting the arts in her community, especially within the youth population. In 2007, she wrote, produced and directed a live, interactive, multi-media production called "Forward Motion" presented by teens, for teens in inner cities across Connecticut. 

Camps Wendy will teach are below:

June 26-30: Broadway for Beginners

Ages 3 - 6 (must be potty trained)
9:30-12:30 
Performance Friday, June 30 @ 12 p.m.

  • Description: This exciting beginner class provides engaging theater games and instruction for beginners on acting, singing, blocking, line memorization and what goes into presenting a musical theater production. Students will sing their favorite tunes from Broadway and Disney shows and perform a show for friends and family at the end of the session.
 
July 10-14: Heart of an Island Princess (Based on Moana)
Pre-K - 4th grade
9:30-12:30
Performance Friday, July 14 @ 12 p.m.

  • Description: An adventurous princess, daughter of the chief of her tribe, she sets off on a journey to a fabled island with her hero, the demi God Maui. Along the voyage they battle the treacherous ocean and all which it hides, all the while learning what the power love between friends can accomplish. 

July 24 - 28: Black Light Bungle in the Jungle - Glow in the Dark
Pre-K - 4th grade
9:30-12:30 
Performance Friday, July 28 @ 12 p.m.
$295 
  • Description: In this fun-filled theater camp, young thespians will sing jungle themed songs from The Lion King and Jungle Book and unleash their inner animal as they tell a story through music, song and dance. Costumes and props will glow in the dark under the black lights.
