Garelick & Herbs New Canaan hosts a Special Night for Special People

Introducing Club Tuesday

Garelick & Herbs New Canaan hosts a Special Night for Special People

The next gathering of Club Tuesday will be on Wednesday, June 7th. 5-7:00PM

Tuesday May 16th was the kick off for a unique group of people. It was the first gathering of the Club Tuesday, a night for teens and young adults with disabilities.

“Young adults with special needs need a place to gather, have fun and make new connections,” said Alyssa Licht Rapko, manager of the G&H New Canaan as well as a family therapist.

This group will be held monthly and it was agreed that it will be for adults as well as their families, to connect, relax and share experiences.

This first evening was attended by families from New Canaan, with children ranging in age from 13 to 27. Moms enjoyed a cheese platter, companionship, and opportunity to share disability advocacy strategies.

In attendance was Will Bucklenheimer who is working at G&H afternoons through his program Abilis, an agency which places adults in suitable jobs. His mother, Denise, said he loves his job at G&H.

Eva Eason enjoyed the chance to color among new friends. Her mother Anne Treimanis is a special education attorney.

PJ Marcella, mom of John, enjoyed the evening to catch up, not have to make dinner and enjoy seeing friends that she hadn’t seen in a while. A wide array of healthy food was available for purchase in the front of the shop.

Alyssa also invited some adult friends with disabilities that brought a great energy that evening.

The parents loved the idea of making this an evening geared towards young adults. This is an age range where there are few places for them to get together to connect. Everyone decorated cookies. Future evenings could include music, crafts, art, and puzzles.

The next gathering of Club Tuesday will be on Wednesday, June 7th. 5-7:00PM (It will be always be on Tuesdays after June 7th)
