Learning How to Make Lasting First Impressions in Connecticut

Do your kids mind their Ps & Qs?

Most of today’s youth are well versed in snapchat, Instagram, texting, and tweeting, but do they have proper table manners? What about the art of the thank you letter? Do they know how to introduce themselves to adults or business professionals?

As parents, we may remind our kids to mind their Ps and Qs, but having local pros reinforce our tutelage can go a long way.

We did some digging and could only find one comprehensive etiquette school in Connecticut. Enter First Impressions etiquette school in Westport.  Founded and directed by Michelle Sperry, who was trained at the Etiquette and Leadership Institute in Athens, Georgia, the school specializes in manners training and etiquette classes for students ages three through adulthood.

Sperry’s mission is to not only instill proper etiquette on her students, but to help them to develop poise and confidence. “Our programs teach valuable lifetime skills to develop self-confidence, courtesy and respect for others through fun curriculum incorporating etiquette lessons, dining tutorials, and social dance education,” she says.

Younger children are invited to learn and embrace dining etiquette which includes understanding of the table setting, the proper use of how to use utensils, and dining conversation.

For Middle schoolers and high schoolers, First Impressions puts a spotlight on maintaining etiquette on social media, dressing for success, introductions, the RSVP, thank you letter, and simple rules of courtesy.

College prep, interview training, and business workshops are also available through classes, semi-private workshops or private lessons.

Sperry offers families a FREE etiquette consultation. You can call (203) 210-7155 to set up a time to learn more about First Impressions and to tour the facility.

First Impressions Etiquette School is located on 15 Ketchum Street in Westport, CT.
