Wilton 6 Blue Playoff Run Ends

After an amazing run through the playoffs, Wilton 6 Blue came up short following the loss of QB Luke DiRocco for the finals and fell to undefeated New Canaan on the last day of the FCFL season in a hard-fought battle between two perennial contenders.

The run through the playoffs began with a dramatic overtime victory against Darien. The Warrior offense behind the blocking of Eli Meltzer, George Papakosmas, Ethan Gallo, Colin Gilmore and Lorenzo Caratozzolo marched up and down the field all day but only managed one score in regulation. Harry Polito, Jack Costello, and Todd Woodring all churned out large runs and DiRocco completed long passes to Henry Roy and Woodring to keep the drives going. Big defensive stops led by Polito, Costello, Thomas MacDonald, Quin Silva and Carter Stephenson helped keep Darien out of the end zone. In overtime, Polito scored his second touchdown of the game and Woodring calmly kicked the game-winning extra point to send the Warriors to the semifinals with a 14-13 victory.

The semifinal matchup against Westport team was just as exciting as the Warriors battled back from behind late in the game to tie the score and then win in dramatic fashion 14-13 again – this time in double overtime. Big pass plays from DiRocco to Polito along with the running of Costello set up the first score with key blocks by Dylan Long, Barrett Leary, and Max Roberge. The defense led by Roy, Gallo, Polito, Costello and Charlie Caporrino stopped Westport on their final drive to send the game to Overtime. After each team was held scoreless in the first overtime, the game went to double OT where DiRocco ran the ball down to the 1-yard line and Woodring punched it in for his second TD of the game. Woodring added the extra point and Wilton won as Westport failed to convert their extra point after scoring.

A great season for Wilton 6 Blue as runners-up in the FCFL 6th-grade division. Congrats to all.
