Spring is Near! Upcoming Ambler Farm Events

Spring is coming! Spring is coming! And, Ambler Farm has a host of activities to usher in the season!
 
Come to the farm to learn something new, view the beautiful late Winter and early Spring vistas, or say hello to our sheep, goats and rabbits. Our goat, Raymond, eagerly awaits your visit!
 
Maple Syrup Open Houses: Sat., March 14th + Sat., March 21st, 1-2pm
Experience a New England tradition! Learn how Ambler Farm turns sap into syrup, tap a tree trunk, learn about Native American, colonial and modern methods of making syrup and taste our very own maple syrup over vanilla ice cream! Plus, bottles of Ambler Farm Maple Syrup will be available for purchase. 
 
This event is free and open to the public. 
 
Youth Apprentice Program Open Houses: Sat., March 7th + Sat., March 14th, 3pm
This unique six-month program (May – October 31, 2015) is open to students currently in grades 5-11. Apprentices meet several times a week to plant, maintain and harvest the farm’s gardens. They also care for our animals and work collaboratively to assist in all aspects of the farm including teaching younger children about farm activities.

Home Garden Workshops: Thurs., March 19thOR Sat., March 21st, 9:30-11:30am
Now is the time to start planning for your home garden. Jonathan Kirschner, Ambler Farm’s Director of Agriculture, is offering this workshop to guide you on your way to the most bountiful home garden. He will walk through the steps that he takes at Ambler Farm and teach you how to adapt these processes to your own garden.

One-on-One Gardening Consultations with Farmer Jonathan
While Farmer Jonathan mans the sugar shack during maple syrup season (late Feb. -March), he will also offer one-on-one half-hour sessions to discuss your specific garden needs! Feel free to bring photos, layouts, crop wish lists or anything else that may be useful during your consultation.
 
Cost: $35 members/$40 non-members. Contact Jonathan at jonathan@amblerfarm.org in advance to schedule a time; best times are Mondays through Fridays from 9am-5pm. An alternate time may be arranged on a case-by-case basis. 
 
Ambler Farm Spring Fling: Sat., April 4th, 11am-12:30pm
Come celebrate Spring at the Farm! Drop in for pancakes with Ambler Farm Maple Syrup anytime between 11am and 12:30pm.  Visit with our sheep, goats and rabbits, and stay to observe our resident sheep’s wool shearing in preparation for warmer weather. Create a fun spring craft and take home a packet of seeds to sow in your own home garden. Rain or shine.

Pysanky: Ukrainian Egg Decorating: Sun., March 29th, 2-4pm
Learn the ancient craft of Ukrainian egg decorating! Made using a wax batik method, Pysanky is a form of folk art that incorporates different symbols and shapes that are brightly and intricately colored. Decorate eggs in a traditional design or create your own. Ages 9 and up. Taught by returning instructor Susan Clark.

Transplants for Your Home Garden
Ambler Farm is offering a wide range of transplants for sale. Click here to view and order our transplants, which are 100% organically grown in our greenhouse from seed in a compost-based, biologically-active potting soil, and are lovingly tended by our Farmer Jonathan. If you order early, you will have access to many options that are "Grown to Order Only."  We will begin selling cold weather transplants in mid-April and warm weather transplants in mid-May. There are many more details on our website: check out our transplants and let your gardening imagination run wild!

Farm-to-Kitchen Summer Program: Weeks of July 6 and July 27
Back by popular demand, this exciting program provides students entering grades 8-11 with a unique farm-to-fork opportunity. They’ll work side-by-side with Farmer Jonathan and Middlebrook School culinary arts teacher Heather Priest, learning to grow and cook freshly-harvested foods. Register now!
