Ambler Farm Apprentice Program Open House

Open Houses: March 11th + March 18th at 3:00pm

The Apprentice Program at Ambler Farm is a six-month program, running from May through October, is open to students currently in grades 5-11. We are only accepting new apprentices in grades 5-8. Apprentices meet several times a week to plant, maintain and harvest the farm’s educational gardens and work with Farmer Jonathan in the production gardens. They also care for our rabbits, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and coming in May: PIGS! Apprentices work collaboratively to assist in all aspects of the farm including teaching younger children about farm activities.

Apprentices are actively involved in many farm-related tasks. The work can be challenging but incredibly rewarding – the program includes many special events such as Ambler Farm Day, a farm-to-table soup & salad experience, a bonfire, a campout and more! Apprentices will meet on Mondays and Thursdays during the spring and fall from 4-6pm, and on Saturdays from 9-11am. Hours may shift slightly during the summer months to take advantage of the longer summer days. Attendance is very flexible as we know our apprentices have busy lives

This is an extraordinary hands-on program. Parents and prospective apprentices must attend one open house on either March 11th or March 18th. The purpose of the open house is to help prospective apprentices understand the nature of and the expectations for the program to ensure it is a good fit. If a child is not able to attend either open house, a separate meeting must be scheduled with Kevin Meehan by March 24th. This is the deadline for new apprentices to express interest in the program.

Program slots will be filled first by returning apprentices, then siblings of returning apprentices followed by children of Board Members.

On March 26th, should there be interest beyond program capacity, a lottery will be held to select new apprentices. The lottery will be overseen by Executive Director, Robin Clune, Program Director, Kevin Meehan, Farm Educator Jennifer Grass as well as several Board Members.

Prospective apprentices will be notified of the lottery results between March 26th – April 1st.

Contact Jennifer Grass at jennifer@amblerfarm.org for more information.

Cost: $500
