Now through Aug. 25 1000 Books for Kindergarten: Summer Children who are not yet entering Kindergarten are invited to participate in our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program for the summer and beyond. During the summer, children will receive a special bonus prize for visiting the library each week. Make sure children say ‘hello’ to a Children's Librarian and sign up for Wilton Library cards in their names! Now through Aug. 25 Wilton Library’s Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program Join Wilton Library this summer for our Water, Wind & World Summer Reading Program.  Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection.  By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer.  The Water, Wind & World program stimulates kids’ imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about ecosystems, animals, and resources in the world they live in. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 25.  Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience. Now through August 31 Explore New Worlds Summer Reading Program for Teens and Tweens Wilton Library’s summer reading program for teens and tweens, Explore New Worlds!, kicks off on June 23 and continues through August 31.  The program is for kids entering grades 6 through 12.  Registration takes place online with Wandoo Reader in which kids can enter their time spent reading.  All a kid needs is a good book and an internet connection. Age-appropriate reading in any fiction, nonfiction, biography and Manga makes kids eligible for gift certificates; a chance to win a $100 American Express gift certificate awaits at the end of the 10 weeks. Thursday, July 6, 13, 20 & 27 Summer Poetry with Judson Scruton: Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop - Metaphors, Madness, and Friendship, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Judson Scruton leads this 4-part series exploring the poetry of Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop. Judson will look at this extraordinary friendship and how it impacted their writing and perhaps influences people’s understanding of their poems. Thursday, July 6 Summer Music & More Concert Series: Over Easy, 5 – 6:30 p.m. Over Easy opens Wilton Library’s 17th year of free concerts, recreating’60s harmonies and the sounds of the British invasion.  Enjoy music from the Hollies, the Cyrkle, the early Beatles and so many more with engaging interactions with the audience. Monday, July 10 through Friday, July 14 Programming for Teens - Control Flow Logic, 10 – 11 a.m. Learn some basic HTML and JavaScript, sample code snippets, and write simple programs while practicing control flow logic – a key function to software programming. Using loops (e.g.; starting with the first sign ups, offer ice cream cones to the next ten sign ups), if/else statements (e.g.; if we have sugar cones, put the ice cream in them; else put them in bowls) and switches (e.g.; in case they are one of the first five sign ups give them a free topping; in case they are the tenth sign up, give them all the toppings; in case the sign up is Donald Duck, give them nothing) and more, you’ll be able to control the order of instructions or functions within a program.   For students entering grades 7-12. Tuesday, July 11 Peace Rocks!, 3 – 5 p.m. The Rotary Club installed the first Peace Pole at Wilton Library last fall with several more installed at our schools and community buildings. To continue this world peace theme, we invite our patrons age 5 to 105 to drop by the library to paint river rocks with messages of peace. The colorful rocks will then be added to our garden surrounding the Peace Pole advancing the Rotary's tenet of 'World Peace Through Understanding.' No registration, just drop by. Rain date: July 25. Tuesday, July 11 Author Talk: Anthony LoFrisco - The LoFrisco Family Cookbook: How Josie Brought Sicily to Brooklyn, 7 – 8:30 p.m. The LoFrisco Family Cookbook: How Josie Brought Sicily To Brooklyn by Anthony LoFrisco, is part cookbook, part memoir. Friday, July 14 73rd Annual Wilton Artists’ Summer Show Exhibition/Reception, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Reception to celebrate more than 50 Wilton artists displaying diverse styles, media, and subjects in this two-month long annual Summer Show.  A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Saturday, July 15 Get Booked! Local Author Showcase, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Wilton Library brings area authors together in an informal setting to meet and greet book lovers during Wilton’s Sidewalk Sale.  People will be able to stop and chat, purchase the authors’ books and get them signed during this open house at the library. Monday, July 17 Make Felted Soap and Bath Bombs for Teens, 3 – 4:30 p.m. Transform a bar of soap and some wool into a soap and washcloth in one. Teens use colored wool fibers to create a covered bar of soap that can be used again and again, then reused once the soap is gone. Topics will include: how to find the best information online and make it better in order to profit niche-by-niche within your business; how to write a blog using frequently asked questions that rank almost instantly on Google and convert visitors to buyers; how to convert your niche blog posts to videos to rank on YouTube, Google, Facebook and Linked In; and, how to post images on Pinterest and Instagram that link to your video and blog post to enhance your Google search ranking. Wednesday, July 26 Cartoon Drawing Demonstration, 4 – 4:45 p.m. For children of all ages and their families. Come watch charming mermaids, fairies, pirates, and spacemen come to life on a sketchbook. Everyone who attends will leave with a quick sketch made on the spot. Be sure to bring your imagination and have a fun time watching the creations. This program is being offered by high school graduate Emma Keating.  Emma is a graduating senior at Wilton High School. Next year she will be studying film at Purchase College. She creates her own animated movies by drawing thousands of individual pictures. These frames add up to make a full story.
