Wednesday, Nov. 1 AARP Driver Safety Class, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest classroom driver safety course designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. This single session, four-hour course covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time associated with ageing and provides practical techniques on how to adjust to these changes, along with learning to operate vehicles more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. There are no written or driving tests - classroom only.  NY residents: please contact your insurance carrier to confirm they will accept a Connecticut State class certificate.  Program cost by cash or check only: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-members. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 8 & 15 Books for Babies, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. Bring your wonderful baby to this infant friendly program at the Wilton Library! Wednesday, Nov. 1, 8 & 15 Wonderful Ones and Twos, 11 – 11:30 a.m. This program is a sharing time for 1 and 2-year-olds and their caregivers. The emphasis is on books, with some songs and toy time. Wednesday, Nov. 1 & 15 Paper Botanical Amaryllis with Laurie Davis, Daytime Sessions, 1 – 3:30 p.m.; or Evening Sessions, 5:30 – 8 p.m.   Join Wilton's own Glitter Fairy, Laurie Davis, as she once again graces Wilton Library’s Innovation Station with her magical art and guides us in creating a lovely Paper Botanical Amaryllis for the upcoming holidays.  Together we will learn how to make a white blooming Amaryllis flower that will last for years to come.  Materials include crepe paper, pigment, glitter and moss all festively planted in terracotta pot and embellished with ribbon.   Keep the flower for your own home or gift it to someone special for the holidays.  Class consists of two 2-1/2 hour sessions. Sign up for the afternoon of November 1st (1-3:30 p.m.) automatically places you in the November 15th afternoon session (1-3:30 p.m.). Registration for the November 1st evening session (5:30-8 p.m.) automatically enrolls you in the November 15th evening workshop (5:30-8 p.m.). Thursday, Nov. 2 Wilton Reads - Experience Cuba, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Travel consultant Margaret Sanko of Wilton Center Travel and Meghan O’Shea, Sales Development Manager and Joyce Williams, Group Sales Specialist both from Tauck in Wilton, will share their vast knowledge of Cuba. They also will share details of a trip being planned for October 11 – 17, 2018 to benefit Wilton Library. Saturday, Nov. 4 Flu Shot Clinic at Wilton Library, 10 – 11:30 a.m.Flu shots are available to anyone age four years and older. Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No appointment needed, first-come, first-served, no waiting. Please wear sleeves that roll up easily. Cost of the flu shot is $42 payable by cash or check or it can be billed directly to Aetna, Anthem, Connecticare, Fallon, Harvard Pilgrim, Healthy Ct, Multi Plan, Unicare, Wellcare or Medicare Part B. Saturday, Nov. 4 Wilton Reads – Film Screening: CubAmerican, 7 – 9 p.m. CubAmerican tells the story of a variety of eminent exiles from Cuba who overcame personal loss and struggle to assimilate, triumph and thrive in the United States as Cuban-Americans. The cast covers a wide range of professional, business, and cultural fields and includes such notables as baseball great Tony Perez, actor Andy Garcia, and our featured Wilton Reads author and Yale historian Carlos Eire. Sunday, Nov. 5 Connecticut’s Own Concert: The Madera Winds, 4 – 5 p.m. The Madera Winds, formed in 2012, is a blend of Connecticut Musicians who have performed over the last thirty years in other chamber music groups in Wilton as well as throughout Fairfield County. Ralph Kirmser (Oboe) of Wilton and Janet Atherton (Clarinet) of Norwalk had been founding members of the Prevailing Winds Quintet since the 1980’s. Rosemary Dellinger (Bassoon) has been the bassoonist for the Connecticut Little Symphony and teaches Spanish at Cider Mill School in Wilton. Dr. Kerry Walker, professor of Music at Western Connecticut State University is the flutist. Zach Glavan, Horn, is a graduate of the Indiana School of Music and has performed with the Hong Kong Symphony and the Macau Orchestra.  The Madera Winds will perform chamber music by Debussy, Malcolm Arnold, George Gershwin and Paquito D’Rivera. Monday, Nov. 6 through Dec. 18 Sign, Say, and Play, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. The Baby Signs® Program teaches caregivers and children from 6 months of age to the toddler stage signs for everyday activities so they can communicate before the child can speak fluently.  Each workshop session focuses on one everyday activity. The signs are learned through activities, songs, and a book.  Every participant will go home with a handout.  There will be 7 workshop programs.  Monday, November 20 is a special Thanksgiving themed program! Wednesday, Nov. 8 Wilton Reads: Author Visit—Carlos Eire: Waiting for Snow in

Havana, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Carlos Eire’s talk is the culminating event of Wilton Library’s twelfth Wilton Reads town-wide reading program. Winner of the National Book Award for Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy, this stunning memoir is a vibrant and evocative look at Latin America from a child’s unforgettable experience. Eire earned his Ph.D. at Yale University in 1979 and is now the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale. Mr. Eire will be presented with the Grodin Family Fine Writers Award before his talk. Registration is strongly recommended. There is no charge for the program. Thursday, Nov. 9 Autumn Poetry with Judson Scruton: Islands in the Autumn Sun, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.  This is the final session ofJudson Scruton’s Autumn Poetry Seminar Series exploring the poetry of islands. In keeping with Wilton Library’s focus on Cuba this fall with its Wilton Reads program, our poetry seminar will focus on Islands, both literal and metaphoric  Judson Scruton, M.A (The Johns Hopkins University, The Writing Seminars, specializing in poetry), has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. Saturday, Nov. 11 New Perspectives Film Series—An Insignificant Man, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.  An Insignificant Man is a documentary thriller about Arvind Kejriwal, an Indian activist, who has emerged as the leader of the newest political force in India - the Common Man’s Party.  The film provides an insider’s view in to Kejriwal’s brand of politics which has been labeled as selfish, dangerous, anarchic and yet revolutionary, shaking the country's most powerful political establishments with basic public issues like water, electricity, and graft. Capturing moments of triumph and despair, the film is a moving cinematic journey through the narrow lanes of Delhi’s shantytowns to the closed corridors of political power. Friday, Nov. 17 Unhung Heroes Art Exhibition, 6 – 7:30 p.m.  Wilton Library welcomes more than 20 artists who have either not exhibited at the library before or not in the recent past. Linda’s work is expressive, responding to direct observation in nature. She has a personal relationship with trees. She often treats trees as figures, gestural and dancing.
