OFs FRANK MALDONADO AND PAUL TUPPER SIGNED BY WESTERNERS

The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of outfielders Frank Maldonado (Pittsburgh) and Paul Tupper (Princeton) to their 2015 roster.

Frank Maldonado is a (red shirt) freshman outfielder for the University of Pittsburgh.   Maldonado is off to a strong start in the 2015 campaign, as he is batting .261 and slugging a team-leading .696 for the Panthers (through March 8).  Maldonado has slugged two home runs already this season, one in the season opener against St. Louis and another against VCU. Prior to attending Pittsburgh, Maldonado went to Seton Hall Prep high school, and was captain for the baseball team. In his senior year, Maldonado was named First Team All-State and first team All-SEC with a .433 batting average and .571 on base percentage, leading Seton Hall Prep to sectional and county championships. Maldonado is from Short Hills, NJ.

Paul Tupper is sophomore outfielder for Princeton University, hailing from Milford, CT. Tupper has started all seven games for Princeton this season, and is off to a fine start, batting .292 and slugging .500  Tupper has a home run and has already driven in five runs this season (through March 8).  In 2014 Tupper appeared in 39 of Princeton’s 40 games, starting 38.  Tupper batted .275 as a freshman, and led the team with 20 runs batted in.  One of Tupper’s highlights as a freshman was a three-game set against UNC Greensboro, where he went  8-for-14 (.571) with a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Tupper plans to major in Economics.

Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerners, commented, “Frank and Paul are both power-hitting outfielders who should enjoy playing in Danbury this summer. I look forward meeting both of them when they report to Danbury in June.”

The 11th annual Danbury Westerners Charity Golf Outing to benefit the Westerners and Western Connecticut State University’s Melissa E. Fenwick and Harold B.
