Mary E. Comer, 79, of Bethel, died peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022. Mary was born on August 29, 1942, in Portland, OR; daughter of the late Robert and Nancy (Northup) Turner.
Mary was a lifelong Bethel resident for the past 50 years. Mary was a beloved presence in the community who never met a stranger that didn’t leave a friend, greeting everyone she met with a smile during her work in the office of Dr. Theodore Blum or as a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Bethel.
Mary lived life to the fullest and everything she did was shrouded in love and compassion. As an avid quilter, having recently completed her 100th quilt she helped turn others cherished memories into beautiful keepsakes that cloaked their loved ones in warmth and comfort. Mary was a friend to everyone she met and gave of herself selflessly to those in her life.
Family was everything to Mary, her unconditional and abundant love for them was at the heart of every event, milestone, celebration and gathering. Her love transcended generations, radiating through each with her loving embrace and sunny disposition.
Mary is survived by her loving children and stepchildren: Tiffany Shaw (Margie), Kathleen Comer Francis, Thomas Comer, six adoring grandchildren: Josh Francis (Kim), Jenny van Rooyen (Dan), Brian Comer, Sean Comer, Ian Shaw and Noah Shaw and GGM to four wonderful great grandchildren: Ace & Max Francis, Blake & Kensley van Rooyen, her two brothers; Michael and Steven Turner, several nieces and nephews, and the countless friends she had in her life. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Francis Comer, and her daughter, Heidi Shaw.
