Bethel Police K9 Officer Bishop to Retire After Nearly a Decade of Dedicated Service to the Community

The Bethel Police Department reports that after almost 10 years of service (at the age of 11), K9 Officer Bishop will be retiring.

Bishop was purchased by the Town of Bethel in 2013 through a donation by Rich and Beverly Verdi (of Bethel). After the purchase, K-9 Bishop was paired with Officer Adam Cleary. Bishop was trained as a dual-purpose working dog focusing on Narcotics and Patrol work. During his career, he has had many arrests for drug-related crimes.

Officer Bishop has also helped, on numerous occasions, to locate criminal suspects and missing people in Bethel and surrounding towns throughout his career. Most recently he located a suspect in a domestic violence incident who jumped from a second-story window to avoid an arrest and fled the area. K-9 Bishop was able to track the suspect and assist with the apprehension.

Officer Bishop will be retiring to live with Sergeant Cleary and his family.
